Ana Gavilanes is a New York-based photographer and documentary artist. She graduated from Ithaca College Cum Laude with a degree in Documentary Studies and Production, where her work increasingly focused on photography.

During college, she spent much of her time at local shows and began photographing bands in and around Ithaca. That experience gave her the confidence to move further into portraiture and become more intentional about the way she photographs people.

Her practice is rooted in documentary image-making, with a growing focus on composition, portraiture, and visual narrative. She works across digital and analog photography and has also explored alternative photographic processes including cyanotype, kallitype, salt printing, and anthotype.

Still early in her practice, Ana is interested in continuing to learn, experiment, and refine the way she constructs an image.
